GOLDEN VALE

“Golden Vale” is a wrap around mural created for AuroraFlow Spa and Massage in Durham, NC. Located inside of a restored historic 1915 Four-Square house located on William Vickers Ave. AuroraFlow, the owners of the building, commissioned 8 Artists to design murals for each of the 14x14x14 rooms. This room in particular was for Thai massage sessions, a practice more akin to yoga where the viewer would be constantly reoriented and viewing different walls during different stretches. For this reason i wanted to do a wrap around design that engaged the viewer despite their positioning in the room. The lights in each of the rooms can be independently controlled, drenching the rooms the vibrant color. The entire room including the ceiling was painted slate grey by contractors handling the renovation and I chose a metallic gold paint for the design to reflect whatever color light was chosen for the session. The design covered all four walls, a few ceiling details and even a campfire inside of the non functioning fireplace.
